Double Bill: Meg Okura's Pan Asian Chamber Jazz Ensemble & The Erica Seguine/Shannon Baker Jazz Orchestra

The Pan Asian Chamber Jazz Ensemble was founded by composer/violinist Meg Okura in 2005. The ensemble blends classical music and music from Asia with modern jazz. The PACJE has appeared in over 50 concerts and festivals in the U.S. and Asia, and has released three albums.

The Erica Seguine/Shannon Baker Jazz Orchestra seeks to immerse you into a deep sensory experience, creating large, original musical landscapes influenced by various facets of life. Much of Seguine’s music tends to explore the sensory realm by painting pictures of nature, inner states, and reinventing traditional styles through sound, while Baker’s music leans more towards direct emotional intensity, interspersed with messages of light. Both composers, however, convey their message through mixing instrumental colors, textures, harmonies, and styles, while delivering a personal story to the listener.

Personnel:

Reeds: Josh Plotner, Shannon Baker, John Lowery, Andrew Hadro

Trumpets: Nathan Eklund, John Lake, Adam Horowitz

Trombones: Scott Reeves, Nick Grinder, Bob Bennett, Becca Patterson

Voice: Sonia Szajnberg

Guitar: Eric Burns

Piano: Carmen Staaf

Bass: Adrian Moring

Drums: Paolo Cantarella

Conductor: Erica Seguine
